Class Description
Instructed by Curtis Mills and Herb Gerhardt.
An introduction to the use of Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS), with an emphasis on GPS tracking of SAR team's movements during deployments. The IC in SAR Base would be able to monitor team's real-time movements on a computer map of the search area and potentially redeploy them to other areas without routing the teams through SAR base first.
Friday's presentation will be more in-depth and is recommended for both newcomers and experienced users. It will cover the introductory APRS Presentation to be given Saturday, along with a more detailed discussion of the equipment and techniques involved. Various trackers will be displayed including a demo of moving trackers on the computer screen. Those familiar with the concepts can share their knowledge and discuss the implementation of "Radio Tracking Your SAR Teams" with like-minded individuals.
Saturday's presentation will be geared toward the SAR folks who want to learn more about APRS and the benefits for using it during their SAR activities by allowing their IC to Radio Track their SAR teams on a real-time map in SAR Base.
Sunday's presentation will be a much shorter overview of APRS with more opportunity for open discussions and answering questions from those who attend.
Both Curt Mills and Herb Gerhardt will (mostly) be available all three days for further individual discussions and training. Herb will have his 20-ft Shasta Trailer on the Fairgrounds with a working APRS station for show and tell. Look for an old-style KB7UVC license plate in the window.
